Hatfield PPO Prolific Public Offenders Scheme

At JFC Transport Solutions Ltd,  our brand values are:

 - Creating a family-like culture

- Service to Promise

- Team-work

- Creating a culture of belonging

- Giving people second chances

Our CEO, Jon Chambers feels very strongly about the last mentioned brand value, giving people second chances with Hatfield's PPO Prolific Public Offenders Scheme.

This scheme involved a meeting with everyone participating in the PPO scheme, to inform recently released offenders of their potential role at JFC. These people were struggling to find a job, due to bias received from other employers based on this criminal history. However, Jon agreed to place certain recently released offenders within JFC, into roles such as van driver and porter. A decision he does not regret.

As a result of this scheme, JFC gained an amazing employee who rose through the ranks and is now our dedicated company manager, a great success story for the scheme. This employee started as a porter, then a driver, and finally worked his way up into the management of JFC. He is an invaluable asset to JFC, and the company would never have found him if they rejected people based on criminal convictions.

This particular employee is so valuable to the company for many reasons but our CEO says "The fact I gave him a chance when no one else would has proved pivotal in his commitment to both the company and me." Thus, a mutually beneficial commitment between this employee and Jon. The manager is in total control of the day-to-day running of the company, as well as training plans and recruitment, along with daily meetings with Jon to agree on all of the above.

The whole point of serving a prison sentence is to rehabilitate individuals, and thus we want to give people second chances based on their newfound mindset and motivation to do well in life. This program has worked immensely well in the past, and it is something we will definitely look to do again in the very near future.

You will be asked how many points you have on your license, if you have any experience in deliveries (this is not a requirement just so we can assess your ability), how many days you want to work, and you will be asked to attend one of the assessment days. 2. Will I receive training? - You will not receive training if you get a job as a driver or porter. However, you will be briefed on all the safety protocols. If you want to take up our electrical engineer role, you will be trained on and off the road (please see our blog post on the electrical course we offer). 3. Where are you based? - Our depot is based in Potters Bar. This is where you'll go in the mornings to collect the delivery van for the day. 4. What are the hours? - You will e...
How to Work Effectively as a Two-Man Crew When forming crews, the manager at JFC assesses each employee's personality and matches them with a partner that suits them.  However, sometimes you may be a 'floating' driver, so you are not part of a crew. If this is the case then you could be assisting an electrical engineer or porter that differs from day to day. It is important to remember that although 'self-employed', employees do not have the authority to pick who they go out with each day. This decision lies solely with the line manager and is decided based on employee availability for the week. However, the manager will still do his best to assign you with an employee you get along with, this is in his best interest as a crew that likes each other, performs better. Employees must put the work in to ensure that their crew is an effective duo. There are multiple factors to this:  - Compromising: There will be times when you do not agree on the way your partner wants...
